Anthony James Naldrett (born June 23, 1933 in London - † June 21, 2020 in England ) was a Canadian deposit geologist and mineralogist .

Naldrett graduated from Cambridge University with a bachelor's degree in 1956 and then went to Canada, where he worked as a geologist at the Faconbridge Nickel Mines in Sudbury from 1957 to 1959. In 1959 he only worked part-time there, since he was at Queen's University (Kingston) continued his studies with a master’s degree in 1961 and a doctorate in 1964 (on nickel deposits). As a post-doctoral student , he spent three years at the Geophysics Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution in Washington DC. In 1967 he became an assistant professor and in 1972 he became a professor at the University of Toronto . In 1984 he became a University Professor and in 1998 he retired.

He is considered a leading expert on deposits of the Nickel-Copper-Platinum Group. He investigated the tectonics of the deposits, the petrography of the accompanying rocks and the chemical mechanisms during their formation (reactions between sulphide and silicate melts, fractional crystallization of sulphide melts, role of hydrothermal fluids). He investigated corresponding igneous sulphide deposits worldwide.

Naldrett has advised numerous mining companies around the world.

He was awarded two honorary doctorates ( Laurentian University 2000, University of Pretoria 2001). He received the Logan Medal in 1994, the Barlow Medal of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 1974 and the Penrose Gold Medal of the Society of Economic Geologists in 2002 . 1982/83 he was President of the Mineralogical Association of Canada, 1991/92 of the Society of Economic Geologists, 1998 to 2002 of the International Mineralogical Association and 2001/02 President of the Geological Society of America . He was an honorary member of the Mineralogical Society of Great Britain and Ireland . In 1984 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada .
