Anthony Noel, 5th Earl of Gainsborough
Anthony Gerard Edward Noel, 5th Earl of Gainsborough KStJ JP (* October 24, 1923 ; † December 29, 2009 ) was a British politician and nobleman who inherited the title of Earl of Gainsborough as early as 1927 as a 4-year-old and thereby achieved At the age of 21, he became a member of the House of Lords in 1944 , to which he was a member until the House of Lords Act 1999 came into force .
Life
Noel was the second child and eldest son of Arthur Noel, 4th Earl of Gainsborough and his wife Alice Mary Eyre. After his father died on August 27, 1927, at the age of four he inherited the title of 5th Earl of Gainsborough as well as the title subordinate to this title of 5th Viscount Campden, of Campden in the County of Gloucester , 7th Baron Barham, of Barton Court and Teston in the County of Kent , 5th Baron Noel, of Ridlington in the County of Rutland, and 7th Baronet . After attending the Worth School , he graduated from Georgetown University . On reaching the age of 21, he became a member of the House of Lords due to his nobility in 1944, to which he belonged until the House of Lords Act 1999 came into force .
In addition, the Earl of Gainsborough was also involved in local politics and was between 1952 and 1967 Chairman of the Council of Oakham (Oakham Rural District Council) . He also served from 1957 to 1974 as a magistrate (justice of the peace) of Rutland and 1965 was also president of the association of local councils (Rural District Council's Association) . In 1967 he was also Master of the Guild of Gardeners ( Worshipful Company of Gardeners ) and from 1968 to 1974 President of the British Association of the Sovereign Order of Malta . For his services he was Bailiff Grand Cross of the Order of Malta and in 1970 Knight of Justice of the Order of Saint John (KStJ). He was also between 1970 and 1973 chairman of the Rutland County Council and 1974 Justice of the Peace of Leicestershire .
The Earl of Gainsborough married Mary Stourton on July 23, 1947, the eldest daughter of Major John Joseph Stourton, who was in turn a son of Charles Stourton, 24th Baron Mowbray . This marriage produced four sons and four daughters, including the eldest son Anthony Baptist Noel , who inherited the title of 6th Earl of Gainsborough and subordinate titles after his death in 2009.
