Anthony Sedlak

Anthony Lawrence Sedlak (born April 15, 1983 in Prince George , † July 4, 2012 in North Vancouver ) was a Canadian chef and television chef and host of The Main program on the Food Network .

Early years

Anthony Sedlak grew up in the North Vancouver District . At 13, he started working in the cafeteria on Grouse Mountain . He was promoted shortly thereafter, and at the age of 14, he worked as a cook in the main kitchen of Bar 98 . At the age of 16 he worked for the Grouse Nest restaurant (now The Observatory ). During this time he completed the Culinary Art Program at Carson Graham Secondary School in North Vancouver and then completed a four-year course at Vancouver Community College .

Career

On the advice of Sylvain Cuerrier, the head chef at Grouse Mountain, the twenty-year-old Sedlak was hired at La Trompette in West London , where he worked under chef Olivier Couillaud. With the experience gained there, Sedlak returned to Grouse Mountain where he became sous chef at The Observatory .

At the age of 22, with the support of Harold Bonkowski, he was elected Canadian representative at the Hans Bueschken World Junior Chef Challenge 2006 in Auckland . There he received the silver medal.

A few months later Sedlak won the Superstar Chef Challenge II station's Food Network . After his victory, he left The Observatory restaurant and shot the program The Main , which first aired on October 1, 2007. He was also a juror on Family Cook-Off , which was also broadcast on the Food Network.

Sedlak has been named head chef at The Corner Suite Bistro De Luxe in Vancouver, due to open in November 2009. In February 2010 - a few days before the opening - Sedlak parted with the restaurant in order to take advantage of other career opportunities.

On July 6, 2012, Sedlak was found dead in his North Vancouver apartment. According to the coroner's report, he committed suicide and died of an overdose of cocaine and oxycodone . Shortly before his death, another edition of the program Anna & Kristina's Grocery Bag was filmed with Sedlak as a guest judge. The episode aired on November 20, 2012. While this wasn't his last TV appearance, he was remembered at the end of the episode. His last appearance was in the twelfth episode of the second season of You Gotta Eat Here! Which first aired on March 22, 2013 . , in which he is remembered at the end with the words "in loving memory of Anthony Sedlak".
