Antirrhinum siculum is a plant type from the genus of snapdragons ( Antirrhinum ) in the family of plantain plants (Plantaginaceae).

description

Antirrhinum siculum is a perennial , herbaceous plant whose upright, freely branching stems reach heights of growth of 20 to 60 cm. Often the branches can only be recognized by short, axillary tufts of leaves . The plant is mostly hairless, it is only hairy in the inflorescences. The leaves that are mostly opposite at the bottom and mostly alternate at the top are 20 to 60 mm long and 2 to 6 mm wide. Their shape is linear to narrowly elliptical.

The lower bracts merge into the foliage leaves, the upper ones are only about 5 mm long and are therefore similar in length to the flower stalks . The calyx is covered with about 5 mm long, ovate-lanceolate and almost pointed calyx tips. The crown is 17 to 25 mm long and pale yellow in color, rarely it is also veined red.

The fruits are egg-shaped, glandular hairy capsules with a length of 10 to 12 mm.

Occurrence

The species occurs in Sicily , Malta and possibly in southwest Italy , but is grown as an ornamental plant in the entire Mediterranean area and is also wild there. It grows on rocks and on walls.
