Antoine Calbet

Antoine Calbet (born August 16, 1860 in Engayrac , Lot-et-Garonne department , † 1944 in Paris ) was a French painter.

Life

After his first artistic lessons in Montpellier ( Département Hérault ), Calbet came to Paris. He graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts (EBA) a. a. Student of Alexandre Cabanel and Édouard-Antoine Marsal . As a member of the Société des Artistes Français , he made his successful debut at an exhibition in 1880.

Calbet's oeuvre includes watercolors , lithographs and oil paintings . In addition, many illustrations of books were created over the years. In 1907 he was entrusted with the decoration of the municipal theater of Agen (Dépt. Lot-et-Garonne).

Calbet found his style as a student at the EBA. He was very productive and his successful participation in the exhibitions of the Salon de Paris boosted his popularity. Therefore, his artistic work soon became a financial success.
