Antoine Gautier de Montdorge

Antoine-César Gautier de Montdorge (born January 17, 1701 in Lyon , † October 24, 1768 in Paris ) was a French dramaturge, librettist , poet and encyclopaedist . De Montdorge also took important roles in the financial management of the Ancien Régime .

Live and act

He worked as the royal chamberlain , maître de la Chambre aux deniers du roi , a position he held for a long time. From 1727 to 1768 he was treasurer Trésorier de la chambre . He was friends with the Fermier général and patron Alexandre Le Riche de La Pouplinière , the patron of Jean-Philippe Rameau . For the latter he wrote, among other things, Les Fêtes d'Hébé , a ballet and singspiel to the music of Rameau, as a librettist in 1739 . His membership in the Académie des sciences, belles-lettres et arts de Lyon was to be seen as an award for his literary-artistic talent. He was a patron of the arts, but also the artist, the musician and the poet himself.

For the Encyclopaedia of Denis Diderot wrote the Lemma Nadir .
