Antoine Hayek

Antoine Hayek BC (born August 26, 1928 in Maghduscha in southern Lebanon , † May 1, 2010 ) was Archbishop of the Archeparch Banyas and Marjayoun of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church united with the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Antoine Hayek joined the Congregation of the Basilian by St. John the Baptist and was ordained a priest on August 1, 1954 .

In 1989 he was elected Archbishop of the Archeparchy Banyas and Marjayoun (Caesarea Philippi) by the Holy Synod of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church and confirmed by Pope John Paul II . The episcopal ordination on February 11, 1990 gave him His Holiness Maximos V Hakim , the Patriarch of Antioch of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church ; Co - consecrators were Joseph-Marie Raya , Archbishop of the Archeparchy Acre of the Graeko-Melkites, and Abraham Nehmé , Archbishop of Homs of the Graeko-Melkites.

Hayek was a member of the Assembly of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon.

His age-related resignation was granted at the Holy Synod in Ain Traz , which took place from October 9th to 14th, 2006.
