Anton Paul Wagner , Czech Antonín Pavel Wagner (born July 3, 1834 in Königinhof an der Elbe, Bohemia ; † January 26, 1895 in Vienna ) was an Austrian sculptor.

Life

Anton Paul Wagner, from 1851 a student of Joseph Max in Prague, settled in Vienna in 1857 and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Franz Bauer until 1864 . From 1868 he traveled through Italy, Dalmatia and Germany.

He was considered the author of decorative portraits with a "robust expression". The majority of his works are located in Vienna, including in the Parliament , at the Burgtheater statues of dramatic artists and writers ( S. de Prato , Calderon , Molière , Garrick ), the Vienna Hofburg Gate of Hercules with Hellhounds or the General Hall of the Army History Museum (portrait statue of Herbard VIII . von Auersperg , 1868), the goose girl fountain on the Rahlstiege, the angel fountain on the Wieden, statues of Liebenberg and chaos in the ballroom of the Vienna City Hall . After 1880 he participated in the furnishing of the National Theater in Prague (statues of Lumír and Záboj , statuary group opera and drama ) and the National Museum in Prague (statues of the Czech Republic, Moravia and Silesia, tympanum and relief of the front wall Wenceslaus II, Charles IV and Rudolf II. And the allegories Elbe and Moldau ).

From 1890 he was an extraordinary member of the Czech Academy of the Emperor Franz Joseph for science, spoken word and art .
