Goose girl fountain
The Gänsemädchenbrunnen is a listed ( list entry ) fountain on the Rahlstiege in Vienna's 6th district of Mariahilf .
Locations
The goose girl fountain set up here in 1886 was created by Anton Paul Wagner , who also created the angel fountain on Wiedner Hauptstrasse . The original location of the fountain was the poultry market on the fire site in the inner city from 1866 , from where it was removed in 1874 and stored in a depot. From 1879 it was on the square in front of the Mariahilfer Church on Mariahilfer Strasse , but was moved to its current location in 1886 because of the installation of the Haydn monument.
presentation
The goose girl fountain erected by the municipality of Vienna shows a girl with a goose on a stone pillar. Two other geese with spread wings have the function of gargoyles in the two water basins. This motif was chosen because of the original location of the fountain on the Viennese poultry market.
