Life
Anton Allmayr, born on October 12, 1761 in Vienna, was trained first in Löwenburg , then at a Konvikt . In the Bavarian War of Succession in 1778/1779 he was an ensign in the Winkof Freikorps . In the further course of the war he worked in the Kinsky regiment . After the war he became an official at the imperial-royal court chamber , which was responsible for the minting and mining. Appreciated by Emperor Joseph II , he appointed Allmayr as an inspection assistant responsible for Austrian factories. He made a name for himself and was allowed to travel to various Austrian factories with Archduke Franz, later Emperor Franz II , to familiarize him with the country's industry. In 1804 Allmayr was finally given the office of factory inspector. In this office he advised other commissions, such as the introduction of Girard's flax spinning process or the introduction of steam navigation on the Danube . He also granted industry privileges.
In 1807 Allmayr married Anna Freiin von Born, who died in 1826. Two years after her death, he retired after having worked in industry for 49 years. He spent the last years of his life withdrawn, but nevertheless generally respected for his services to Austrian industry. On January 20, 1844, he finally died at the age of 82.
