Anton Azwanger

Anton Azwanger (born December 1, 1887 in Rattenberg ; † January 31, 1949 in Steyr ) was an Upper Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and teacher. Azwanger was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament and from 1945 to 1949 regional councilor in the Upper Austrian state government .

education and profession

Azwanger grew up in Tyrol and came from an old Tyrolean patrician family, with his ancestors taking part in leading positions in the Tyrolean uprising . Atzwanger completed his compulsory schooling in Tyrol and attended the teacher training institute in Innsbruck, which he graduated with the Matura. Subsequently he worked as a teacher in Tyrol, Lower Austria and Upper Austria. After his assignment in World War I, Atzwanger worked as a teacher in Waxenberg and Steyr.

During the First World War, Azwanger served as a reserve officer and, as a result of the events of the war and the hardship of the post-war years, joined the Social Democrats. After the First World War, he studied theoretical socialism and was involved in local politics. He rose to the position of Vice Mayor of Steyr and was primarily involved in cultural and welfare policy. In the course of the suppression of the February fighting and the Nazi takeover, Azwanger was retired and arrested several times. He worked in a resistance group in Steyr and was forced to work as an insurance agent. After the end of the Second World War, Azwanger was sworn in as a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag on December 13, 1945 and from that day on was also a member of the Gleißner IV provincial government . He died in his office after a long and serious illness.
