Life

Becker, son of the Frankfurt history painter and lithographer Christian Becker (1809-1885), received from 1860 to 1868 an academic painter education at the Städelschule with Edward von Steinle . Then he went to Munich , then he moved to Italy . In 1875/1876 he lived in Düsseldorf , where he found recognition with the painting Parforcejagd , exhibited in 1876 in the “Permanent Art Exhibition” by Bismeyer & Kraus . Then he returned to his hometown. At times he lived in Kronberg im Taunus ( Kronberger painter colony ). In the 1890s he participated in the painting of the Frankfurt Cathedral and executed frescoes based on Steinle's designs. He gave the first lessons in painting and drawing to the Frankfurt painter and caricaturist Lino Salini .

Becker created landscapes, mostly with people and animals, city views and hunting pieces. The depiction of a “temple ruin”, the columns of which are reflected in a pond, refers to his stay in Italy.
