The Empire-style grand piano was built around 1905 by the court piano manufacturer Rud. Ibach Sohn made for the music room of the Krupp family in Villa Hügel . A. Bembé provided the draft for the instrument housing.

Bembé is a parquet manufacturer in Bad Mergentheim in the legal form of a GmbH & Co. KG , which goes back to a traditional workshop for furniture construction and interior decoration in Mainz .

history

Johann Benedikt Bembé founded a tapestry and decoration business in the electoral city of Mainz in 1780 . His son Martin later expanded the business and went into furniture manufacturing as a cabinet maker.

In 1825 Anton Bembé opened a furniture shop in Mainz, which he combined with his father's workshop in 1830. Through the transition from mere furniture production to the manufacture and installation of complete room fittings at a high level of craftsmanship and design, he was able to steadily expand the company. In 1840 a parquet factory went into operation in Cologne-Ehrenfeld , and a French parquet specialist trained the craftsmen. In 1843 the company in Mainz was converted to industrial production with steam power , the workshops there included a locksmith's shop, a sculptor's workshop, a gilding shop, an upholstery shop and a special design studio.

Bembé became one of the leading suppliers in its branch, among other things with orders for the equipment of princely castles such as Peleș Castle , Bran Castle , or Neuschwanstein Castle and Charlottenburg Castle . The company was a Royal Prussian , Royal Württemberg , Grand Ducal Hessian , Grand Ducal Weimar and Ducal Nassau purveyor to the court and has been honored with awards at exhibitions for several decades:

After the revolution of 1848/1849 , the affluent upper class became increasingly important customers. But also state authorities and large companies awarded prestigious orders to Bembé, such as B. for the Hotel Adlon in Berlin, for the Imperial German Embassy in Istanbul or for the salons of the North Atlantic express steamer of the North German Lloyd , which were equipped according to designs by the Bremen architect Johann Georg Poppe .

After August Bembé's death in 1880, the merchant Wilhelm Preetorius , who had only recently joined the company, now run as a limited partnership , became the sole owner. Preetorius was able to continue the success story while maintaining the renowned Bembé company until the First World War and the social upheavals and economic difficulties of the following years brought the traditional business to a near standstill. The company was sold in 1925, but the new owner stopped production after a short time and sold individual parts of it.

Parquet factory

Especially after the establishment of the German Empire in 1871, the demand for parquet floors increased. In 1877 or 1878, a parquet factory with the latest machines was opened in Bad Mergentheim .

When the Bembé company was dissolved in 1925, the Erfurt furniture manufacturers Ziegenhorn and Jucker bought the parquet factory in Bad Mergentheim. The name of the company was changed to Bembé-Parkettfabrik Jucker & Co. KG .

The company survived the Second World War with losses, but was able to recover with the economic upswing in the 1950s and once again became a leading parquet factory in Germany. In 2004 the entrepreneurial family Wirthwein from Creglingen took over the shares from Peter Juckers. In 2007 Bembé had his own exhibition in London. Bembé is also active in export worldwide and lays approx. 1 million m² of parquet every year. At the end of the 80s, production was relocated to Eastern Europe, in Bad Mergentheim only administration and partial storage.
