The publishing line has Alexander Hermann . The patron was Nikolaus Harnoncourt . Benjamin-Gunnar Cohrs is the editor in charge . This fundamentally redesigned, scientific and practical new edition of all works by Anton Bruckner (45 volumes) is divided into genres and scoring. A context-related series of publications on Bruckner appears parallel to the music editions.

Conception

Compared to other composers, Bruckner's own writings show only a few musical errors. However, in terms of performance practice (dynamic information, articulations, tempos, etc.) they cause particular problems because such playing instructions were often only added in the last step. The complex sources of his works also require that, in addition to the autographs, the handwritten parts, first editions and the associated proofs as well as secondary documents must be included. This is where the Urtext Complete Edition comes in: For the first time, all sources are subjected to a fundamental overview and presented in a new context in a scientific and practical Urtext . Bruckner left part of his oeuvre in several versions, which are published in separate volumes. Some versions and works that have remained unedited to this day are being presented for the first time at ABUGA. Variants, alternatives and revised individual sentences are included in a volume if possible. Readers and interpreters find these in situ without having to combine different editions.

In years of preparatory work for ABUGA, the Bruckner Edition Vienna has designed a fundamentally new layout that has been tailored to the special philological problems and peculiarities in Bruckner's manuscripts. The works with orchestra appear in full score. The suppression of general accidentals and keys on the right-hand side creates the impression of a landscape-format sheet of music in the reading flow across the page break, creates additional space and reduces turning points. For the first time, Bruckner's metric digits, which clarify the structure and weighting of the bar periods, are reproduced where they are preserved in the musical text. Additions by the editor as well as variations in the text from different sources are indicated in different colors. This eliminates the usual strain on the eye through brackets, dotted lines or small stitches. Great importance is attached to the best possible usability.

Frequency of publication

The complete editions are in the format 25 × 31 cm in a full linen hard cover with two-color embossing and as an app. All volumes contain a detailed foreword, notes on performance practice, chronology, tables, appendices and an edition report. All texts are basically in German and English. Study scores are in preparation. Two volumes should appear annually. The volumes can be obtained individually or by agreeing a subscription after their publication. The performance materials (conducting scores and parts) for the symphonies are available on loan; those of all other works (small orchestral pieces, choral works, church music, chamber music, songs, piano and organ works) are offered for sale as play editions. The Anton Bruckner Urtext Complete Edition is distributed internationally by Schott Music . So far, the symphonies VI (2016) and VII (2015) as well as the Missa Solemnis in B (2017) have been released (loan material).
