Anton Door

Anton Door (born June 20, 1833 in Vienna ; † November 7, 1919 there ) was an Austrian concert pianist .

Live and act

Anton Door studied piano with Carl Czerny and was taught in theory by Simon Sechter . From 1850 he went on concert tours that took him to Italy and Germany . In Stockholm he was appointed a member of the Royal Academy and appointed court pianist. He then taught for a decade at the Moscow Conservatory and moved to Vienna in 1868, where he taught at the Conservatory of the Society of Friends of Music until 1901 . Here he found his way into the circle of friends of Johannes Brahms and was particularly committed to early music. While Door had some successes as a soloist at a young age, he gave up his solo career completely in 1869 after being appointed to the Vienna Conservatory. As a teacher, he was known less for his inspirational character and interpretation than for his emphasis on technique.

His daughter was the actress and singer Jenny Door .

His personal memories of Johannes Brahms (in: "Die Musik", Vol. II, Issue 15, Berlin, 1903) are still very interesting today for the vivid characterization of the great artist as a musician and as a person.
