Anton Eder (politician, 1924)

Anton Eder (born November 21, 1924 in Landstetten , Lower Austria ; † May 4, 2004 in Scheibbs , Lower Austria) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Anton Eder, who was born in Landstetten, a small cadastral community and today's village of Pöggstall, also attended primary and secondary school here . In 1939 Eder went to Ebreichsdorf , where he was trained as a farmer at the local agricultural school. In 1942 he was signed up as a soldier for the Wehrmacht . In 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Allies in Italy , where he had to spend a year. After returning to Austria, he completed his education at the higher federal college in Salzburg . In 1949 he graduated from high school .

After Eder had worked as a teacher for agriculture for four years until 1953, he took over his parents' farm as a farmer. Eder worked as a farmer until 1988. In 1975 he was honored with the title of Economic Council .

His political career began in 1950, when he successfully ran for the office of mayor of Neukirchen am Ostrong, which at the time was still an autonomous municipality. Eder was the mayor of his home community for 22 years, until 1972. When Neukirchen became part of Pöggstall in 1972 as part of a municipal merger, Eder had to leave office.

In May 1970 he moved to Vienna as a member of the Federal Council . Eder was a member of the second Austrian parliamentary chamber for another 17 years, until November 1987.

Within his party Eder acted as party chairman in Pöggstall. He was also a member of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Agriculture from 1960 to 1975 and of the Chamber of Agriculture of the Melk District from 1970 to 1990 .
