Anton Hiersemann

Anton Hiersemann (born November 9, 1891 in Leipzig , † September 23, 1969 in Stuttgart ) was a German publisher and antiquarian .

The son of bookseller and antiquarian Karl Wilhelm Hiersemann was trained as a bookseller in Leipzig, Moscow and in the USA, including at Brentano’s in New York . In 1920 he joined his father's company and was also an internationally successful antiquarian. After his father's death in 1928, he took over the company, which survived the inflation after the First World War and the Great Depression in 1930.

After the end of the Second World War , Hiersemann initially stayed in Leipzig; After the expropriation of the company in 1950, Hiersemann went to Stuttgart, where he rebuilt the publishing house and managed it until his death, most recently supported by his son Gerd Hiersemann (* 1938). The Stuttgart-based Anton Hiersemann Verlag became a leader in Germany for the humanities .
