Anton Johann Albrechtsberger (born November 20, 1729 in Klosterneuburg ; † around 1800 , location unknown) was an Austrian composer, cellist and music teacher.

Live and act

Anton Johann Albrechtsberger was the older brother of the composer Johann Georg Albrechtsberger (1736–1809). Far less is known about his life than about that of his brother. He was acquainted with Joseph Haydn , with whom he played together between 1757 and 1762. He worked as a cellist in the performance of Haydn's first string quartets at Weinzierl Castle with Baron Karl Joseph Weber von Fürnberg. From 1761 to 1763 he worked as a choralist and teacher of the boys' choir in Klosterneuburg Abbey and from 1765 was employed by Carl Joseph Baron von Neffzern in Silesia . He composed a Singspiel for the bishop of the diocese of Wiener Neustadt (around 1768) and it is believed that he was a member of the band or Kapellmeister there in the 1760s. In 1772 he applied to the Bishop of Olomouc to be Kapellmeister . Nothing more is known about his further life or the date of his death.
