Anton Lissner

Anton Raimund Lissner (born August 21, 1885 in Schönau , Kingdom of Bohemia, † February 6, 1970 in Freiberg ) was a German chemist and technician.

Lissner studied chemistry at the Technical University in Prague from 1904 to 1908 . From 1908 to 1910 he was an assistant in the “Chemical Technology” section and received his doctorate in 1910 with his thesis The chemical characteristics of the hanging rocks of brown and hard coal .

From 1910 to 1920, Lissner was head of the chemical laboratory in the Ignaz Storek foundry and machine factory in Brno . In 1913 he completed his habilitation and in 1920 was appointed professor of chemical technology at the German Technical University in Brno .

From 1942 to 1945 he taught at the Prague German Technical University. From 1945 to 1955 he was a professor of inorganic chemistry at the Bergakademie Freiberg . He initially developed soap, but his scientific pursuit was the refinement of inferior salty brown coal . Since 1957 he was a corresponding and since 1964 a full member of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin .

In 1956 he was appointed founding director of the German Fuel Institute, which he led together with Erich Rammler until 1963. Lissner died in Freiberg in 1970 and was buried in the Donatsfriedhof .
