Anton Matosch

Anton Matosch (born June 10, 1851 in Linz , † May 8, 1918 in Vienna ) was an Austrian librarian and local poet.

In the same year of high school diploma (Abitur), Matosch began to study German, geography, philosophy and history at the University of Vienna in 1869 . During this time he became a member of the Academic Fraternity of Upper Austrian Teutons in Vienna in 1869 . In 1873 he finished his studies and then worked for several years in the school service.

After a while he returned to the university and received his doctorate in 1883 . During this time he worked intensively with the writer Franz Stelzhamer and founded in 1882 together with Hans Commenda sen. and Hans Zötl the Stelzhamer Bund .

From 1885 to 1895, Matosch also edited the Aus da Hoamat series .

From 1890 to 1913, Matosch was appointed librarian at the Imperial and Royal Geological Institute in Vienna . At the First World War Matosch participated as a soldier.

In early 1918 he was promoted to senior librarian and councilor. Anton Matosch died in Vienna on May 8, 1918 at the age of 67 and was buried in a grave of honor in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 0, row 1, number 83).
