Anton Sprengel

Anton Sprengel (born September 11, 1803 in Halle (Saale) , † 1850 fallen in Schleswig ) was a Prussian, German botanist and paleontologist . His botanical author abbreviation is " A.Spreng. "

Anton Sprengel was born in 1803 as the youngest of three sons of the botanist Kurt Polycarp Joachim Sprengel and his wife Sophia Henriette Caroline, nee. Keferstein, born. His older brothers were Wilhelm (born 1792) and Gustav (born 1794).

Sprengel inherited his father's herbarium in Halle. His main areas of work were vascular spore plants , fossils and algae .
