Anton Vratuša (born February 21, 1915 in Dolnji Slaveči , Eisenburg County , Austria-Hungary ; † July 30, 2017 in Ljubljana , Slovenia ) was a Yugoslav political scientist , politician and diplomat .

Life

Anton Vratuša graduated from the University of Ljubljana with a doctorate in Slavic Studies in 1941 . He joined the partisans and was taken prisoner in Italy, so that from February 1942 to September 1943 he was interned in the Gonars and Rab concentration camps, among others . After the end of the war he studied at the Visoka škola politčkih nauka (University of Political Science) in Belgrade . He taught there from 1956 (the college was incorporated into the University of Belgrade in 1968 ); from 1974 he taught at the University of Ljubljana.

From 1967 to 1969 he was permanent representative of Yugoslavia to the United Nations , from 1969 to 1971 deputy of the Yugoslav foreign minister Mirko Tepavac and from 1971 to 1978 deputy chairman of the Federal Executive Council. 1978 to 1980 he was chairman of the executive council (head of government) of SR Slovenia .

From 1969 to 1990 he was on the board of the United Nations Training and Research Institute , and from 1972 to 2002 on the board of the International Ocean Institute . In 1985 he was elected a full member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts .

  • Iz verig v svobodo. Rabska brigada (From Chains to Freedom. The Rab Brigade), 1998, ISBN 961-6049-19-4 . - The book is about the internment in the Kampor concentration camp and Vratuša's role as deputy commander of the partisan unit made up of former inmates of this concentration camp.
