Baron Anton Maximilian Dominik von Baldacci (* 1762 in Vienna ; † July 9, 1841 ibid) was an Austrian statesman.

origin

He comes from a Corsican family who emigrated from Corsica to Hungary during the Corsican freedom struggles against Genoa . His father Josef von Baldacci served there as a constable sergeant in the Austrian army. His brother Josef also died as a constable sergeant in 1808.

Life

Baldacci was educated in the Theresian Knight Academy. He went into the civil service and came to the Hungarian court chamber. There he drew attention to his talent and was transferred to the Galician court chancellery. It was used for important political broadcasts. In this way he found the opportunity to get to know Galicia and to have a positive effect in this country. In 1803 he became the youngest councilor in the Department of the Interior.

The Third Coalition War put an end to his organizational plans, but instead allowed him to work in a different direction, developing his proverbial hatred of Napoleon. After the Battle of Austerlitz and the defeat of Austria, the monarchy was in great danger. New resources and strength were sought and Emperor Franz found the man of his idea in Baldacci. In 1807 he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of St. Stephen .

During the peace up to 1809 he was able to tackle numerous domestic political reforms. He reorganized the education system, the state budget, and national defense. The award of the Order of St. Stephen and the corresponding elevation to the baron class fall during this time. In the fifth coalition war he was at the emperor's side in the army camp. Soon, however, the monarch found it better to return him to a peaceful sphere of activity. He appointed him Vice Chancellor of the United Court Chancellery and in 1811 President of the General Accounting Directorate. With the start of the Wars of Liberation in 1812, he was given a new task: the Emperor entrusted him with catering for the army. For this he received the civil honor cross in 1815 .

After the peace he returned to his position and remained President of the General Accounts Directorate until he was retired in 1839 with the character of Minister of State. Baldacci had served the emperor in the most difficult times for nearly sixty years. As a civil servant he was zealous and at the same time a humane superior. He is portrayed as unselfish, mild and cheerful. When he submitted the proposal to the emperor to collect statistical notes on the monarchy, he conscientiously named the actual author of this plan, one of his subordinates and collaborators, whose merit he drew attention to at every opportunity.

He died unmarried on July 9, 1841 in Vienna.
