Antonella Bevilacqua

Antonella Bevilacqua (born October 15, 1971 in Foggia ) is a former Italian high jumper .

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​she was eliminated in qualification, and the following year she was sixth at the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart .

She came fourth at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , but was disqualified for violating the doping rules because she had been found to contain the banned substances ephedrine and pseudoephedrine earlier that year . Bevilacqua blamed Chinese slimming pills for this finding, and the Italian federation then granted her permission to start, which was subsequently withdrawn in a sports court case.

The following year she won gold at the Mediterranean Games and finished seventh at the World Cup in Athens .

After a serious back injury in 1998, she was unable to regain her top form, although she was at the top of the national league until the mid-2000s. In 2003 she was able to qualify again for the World Cup in Paris / Saint-Denis , but failed in the preliminary round.

She was Italian champion four times outdoors (1992–1994, 1997) and eight times indoors (1991, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2004).

Antonella Bevilacqua is 1.69 m tall and weighs 54 kg. She studied at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Foggia and is a graphic designer and web designer.
