Antoni Besses i Bonet

Antoni Besses i Bonet (born March 5, 1945 in Barcelona ) is a Catalan pianist and composer. Besses is included in the Catalan School of Pianists .

life and work

Besses first studied at the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona with Joan Gibert , Joaquim Zamacois and Joan Massià . He later completed in-depth studies with Pierre Sancan and Olivier Messiaen in Paris and with Frederic Gevers in Antwerp .

He performed with a very broad repertoire from baroque to contemporary music all over Europe. He specialized in chamber music and has often performed as a duet with the violinist Gonçal Comellas or the cellist Radu Aldulescu .

As a composer, the following of his piano works are important: Seguit (1972), Música 17 (1974) and Joc de cadires , which was performed at the Festival de Música de Barcelona in 1980 . His concert for piano and orchestra premiered in Barcelona with great success. In general, Antoni Besses' work has echoes of the work of Frederic Mompous .

Besses also appeared as a conductor and received a first prize for conducting in Antwerp in 1979. From 1981 he was professor at the Barcelona Conservatory.
