Antoni Rubió i Lluch (born July 26, 1856 in Valladolid , † June 9, 1937 in Barcelona ) was a Spanish historian, Graecist, Romanist , Hispanic and Catalanist .

life and work

Rubió studied in Barcelona with Manuel Milà i Fontanals and received his doctorate in Madrid in 1878 with the work Estudio crítico-bibliográfico sobre Anacreonte y la colección anacreóntica y su influencia en la literatura antigua y latina (Barcelona 1879). In 1885 he followed his teacher to the chair for the history of literature (and additionally from 1908 for Catalan literature) at the University of Barcelona (retired in 1928).

Rubió was the first president of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans from 1907 to 1915 . In 1926 he was elected a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .

Antoni Rubió i Lluch was the father of the Catalanist Jordi Rubió i Balaguer .
