Antonio Avelar
Jose Antonio Rodriguez Avelar (* 28. August 1958 in Jalisco ) is a former Mexican boxer in the flyweight .
Professional career
In 1975 Avelar began his professional career with four wins in four fights, all of which were held in Guadalajara . On May 12, 1981, he boxed in Mito against the Japanese Shōji Oguma for the WBC World Championship and won by classic knockout in round 7. However, he lost this belt in his second title defense on March 20 of the following year at the Estadio Tamaulipas to Prudencio Cardona by knockout.
On July 25, 1987, he challenged the Colombian Miguel Lora to a defense of the WBC world bantamweight title. Avelar suffered a knockout defeat in this fight, which took place in Miami , and then ended his career.
