Antonio Battaglia (born 1918 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † October 29, 2011 in León , Mexico ) was a native Argentine and naturalized Mexican football player in the position of central defender .

Life

Battaglia began his professional career in his home country Argentina at CA Vélez Sársfield and then played for Boca Juniors and Club Atlético Atlanta .

With the entry of the Mexican Club León in the 1944/45 season in the Mexican professional league introduced a year earlier , he was obliged by this club, which gave his life a new dimension.

Not only did he play in what was perhaps the best Mexican team of the late 1940s and early 1950s, with which he won three championship titles (1948, 1949 and 1952), but he also met his future wife Lolita James here, started a family with her and kept the center of his life in the city of León until his death at the age of 93.

National team

After being naturalized , Battaglia played all five international matches that the Mexican national team played as part of their participation in the Pan American Football Championship , which was held in Chile for the first time in 1952 .
