Antonio Bernardini (born May 14, 1957 in Barletta ) is an Italian diplomat who has been Ambassador to Brazil since July 1, 2016 .

Career

On April 2, 1981 he graduated from the University of Bari with a degree in political science . On March 1, 1984, he joined the foreign service. From September 1, 1987, he became the second class delegation secretary in New Delhi . From June 1, 1990, he became a first-class delegation secretary to the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations Office in Geneva . From November 30, 1994 he was employed in the economics department. From August 20, 1997 to August 20, 2001, he was Counselor in Tokyo . On August 20, 2001, he was appointed First Class Councilor to UN Headquarters . appointed in New York City. From December 21, 2006 he was diplomatic advisor to the Ministry for the Environment, Landscape and Marine Protection . On August 24, 2010, he was appointed envoy to the UN headquarters in New York City and accredited to the United Nations with the title and rank of ambassador. From December 31, 2013 to July 1, 2016, he was Deputy Secretary General of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation .

With effect from July 1, 2016, he was appointed ambassador in Brasília and is also accredited as ambassador to Suriname in Paramaribo , based in Brasilia .
