Antonio Francese (born October 29, 1899 , † 1979 ) was a Uruguayan politician .

Francese joined the Uruguayan Army and was given the rank of cadet on March 10, 1917 . He attended the Escuela Militar , the military school. On February 27, 1925 he was made a lieutenant in the Regimiento de Artilleria Montada No. 2 and appointed Colonel on February 10, 1946 . In 1953 he was raised to the rank of general and was both commander of the Región Militar No. 1 , Director of the Escuela Militar and General Inspector of the Army.

Francese belonged to the Partido Colorado and was under President Pacheco from March 1, 1967 to April 17, 1970 Minister of Defense of Uruguay. Immediately thereafter he headed the Ministry of the Interior until January 19, 1971. From February 7, 1973 to February 13, 1973, he succeeded Armando Malet again for a few days as Minister of Defense. His nomination for this post by Juan María Bordaberry triggered the crisis de febrero , the February crisis .
