Antonio Neri (theologian)

Antonio Neri (born June 8, 1962 in Catanzaro , Italy , † June 5, 2017 in Rome ) was an Italian clergyman, Roman Catholic theologian and canon lawyer .

Life

Antonio Neri was ordained a priest on July 12, 1991 for the diocese of Molfetta-Ruvo-Giovinazzo-Terlizzi . He studied and received his doctorate in law at the University of Bari , in canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and in theology at the University of Vienna .

From 1993 to 2008 he was professor of canon law at the Theological Faculty of Apulia and a church judge at the regional church court in Apulia. From 2000 to 2008 he was professor of canon law at the Theological Faculty of Lugano and was deputy director of the International Institute for Canon Law and Comparative Law of Religions (DiReCom) in Lugano. He also had a teaching position at the University of Bari. From 2003 to 2008 he was a member of the Society for European Canon Law in Vienna.

In 2008 Antonio Neri entered the service of the Holy See . On May 28, 2011 he was by Pope Benedict XVI. Appointed Undersecretary of the Congregation for the Clergy , which he remained until 2017.
