Antonio Vilaplana Molina

Antonio Vilaplana Molina (born February 28, 1926 in Alcoy , Spain , † January 14, 2010 in Valencia , Spain) was Bishop of León in Spain.

Life

Antonio Vilaplana Molina studied at the seminary in Valencia and received on 18 December 1949, the priestly ordination . He received his doctorate at the Angelicum in Rome. He taught at the Valencia Seminary from 1954 to 1976 and was professor at the Faculty of Civil Law at the University of Valencia from 1963 to 1971 and at the Facultad de Teología San Vicente Ferrer en Valencia from 1969 to 1976 at the Facultad de Teología San Vicente Ferrer en Valencia) . He was Canon of the Cathedral of Valencia .

Pope Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Plasencia in 1976 . He was ordained episcopal on October 31, 1976, by the Archbishop of Valencia, José María García Lahiguera ; Co- consecrators were Manuel Llopis Ivorra , Bishop of Coria, and Doroteo Fernández y Fernández , Bishop of Badajoz.

In 1987, Vilaplana Molina was appointed Bishop of León by Pope John Paul II and was incardinated in his office on March 15, 1987 . On March 19, 2002, his age-related application for retirement was granted.

Antonio Vilaplana was an advisor to the Asociación Católica de Propagandistas and the Catholic Action . In the Spanish Bishops' Conference he was a member of the Episcopal Commissions for Doctrine of the Faith, Interreligious Relations, Education and Catechesis , Migration and Missions. He was president of the Episcopal Commission on the Doctrine of the Faith and Cultural Heritage.

He was an honorary citizen of León, holder of the Spanish Military Order of Merit and a member of the Royal Academy Real Academia de Doctores de España .

Bishop Molina was buried in the Cathedral of León .
