Apurba Kishore Bir

Apurba Kishore Bir (often AK Bir ; * 1948 in Cuttack , Orissa ) is an Indian cameraman and film director.

Life

He completed his training as a cameraman in 1969 with a diploma at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune . He then worked in the advertising industry, making documentaries and short films. When Richard Attenborough's film Gandhi Bir stood behind the second camera. Since 1991 Bir has also worked as a film director. Most of his films deal with the fate of children. In 1996 he was invited to join the jury for the children's film section of the Berlinale, where two years earlier his film Lavanya Preeti had been shown in the children's film competition.

Bir is a three-time National Film Award winner for best cinematography - for Awtar Krishna Kauls 27 Down 1974, B. Narsing Raos Daasi in 1989 and his own Adi Mimansa in 1992, who also received a Nargis Dutt Award . Baaja received a National Film Award for best children's film in 2003.

AK Bir's hobbies include painting and writing poetry.
