The aquarium and terrarium association "Scalare" 1925/55 e. V. Fulda is a non-profit association in Fulda . The association maintains a cold water system for local fish , several aviaries and enclosures as well as a permanent exhibition with aquariums and terrariums on the outskirts .

history

The association was founded in 1925, has around 150 members and is a member of the Association of German Associations for Aquarium and Terrarium Studies (VDA).

In 2015, the association succeeded in breeding the critically endangered Cuban crocodiles for the first time in Germany . For this he was awarded the VDA Breeder's Prize.

Permanent exhibition

The permanent exhibition is located on the club's grounds on the Fulda . The site has an area of ​​approximately 13,000 square meters. Sometimes exhibitions are held in cooperation with other associations, e.g. B. with the model railway club (MEC) Fulda. There is also a youth group.

The animal species kept in the pool garden include sea and freshwater fish as well as rays , shrimp , various types of turtles , squirrels , parrots , crocodiles and alligators , various types of snakes, spiders and other animals.

The aquarium and terrarium exhibition is located in the Rudi-Schmitz-Haus . It is an exotarium with tropical reptiles , amphibians , insects and fish. There is also a so-called cold water system with European pond turtles and native fish, outdoor enclosures for squirrels, water turtles and tortoises as well as aviaries with domestic and exotic birds. There are three ponds and several ponds on the site. The aquarium department is located on the ground floor with 16 freshwater aquariums and one seawater aquarium . There is also a paludarium , three rainforest aquaterrariums with poison dart frogs and an open aquaterrarium with silver turtles and fish. The terrarium exhibition is located on the upper floor and includes 15 terrariums with crocodiles, alligators, various lizards and other animals.
