The Wocheiner Cress ( Arabis vochinensis ) is occurring only in the Southern Limestone Alps representatives of Arabis ( Arabis ). The name comes from the area of Wochein in the Julian Alps .

features

The Wocheiner Cress is a perennial , herbaceous plant . It reaches heights of growth of 5 to 15 cm. Runners are not formed. The stems stand upright and are surrounded by dead leaf remnants at the base. Leaves like stems are covered with pressed, two-pronged hairs. The 2 to 6 stem leaves are sessile with a rounded to narrowed base. The basal leaves are entire, obovate and blunt.

The inflorescence is a dense cluster . The flowers are stalked up to 5 mm long. The petals are 5 to 7 mm long and white. Flowering time is June and July, pollination is carried out by insects or self-pollination .

The pod is 1.5 to 2 mm long, compressed and contains few seeds. The fruit valves are flat, with a weak central vein. The stylus is 1.5 mm long. The seeds sit in a row, so they protrude to the middle of the septum and form a longitudinal line. The seeds are not winged.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

The weeklong rockcress occurs only in the Southern Limestone Alps. Its area includes Slovenia , Friuli and Southern Carinthia (here Karawanken , Gailtal Alps and Carnic Alps ). It grows in damp rock debris and open lawns on damp, chalky soils. It occurs from the montane to the alpine altitude range .

In terms of plant sociology , it is a type of Caricetum firmae from the Caricion firmae association .
