The Arade is a river in southern Portugal that flows exclusively through the Faro district of the Algarve region . It rises in the Serra do Caldeirão , is dammed into reservoirs in its middle course by two dams, flows past Silves and finally flows into the Atlantic at Portimão and Ferragudo .

Up until the 19th century, the Arade was navigable up to Silves . Today this is no longer possible due to siltation .
