Aradus depressus is a species of bug from the family of bark bugs (Aradidae).

features

The bugs are 5.0 to 6.4 millimeters long. You can recognize the species by its pale colored shoulders on the pronotum and the second and third antennae, which are about the same length. The females are always macropter (fully winged).

Occurrence and habitat

The species is distributed throughout Europe, east to Siberia. In the southeast, the distribution area extends to the Caucasus. The species is Central Europe's most common species of the genus Aradus and can be found everywhere. In the Alps it rises to around 1,600 meters, in the low mountain ranges to around 1,000 meters above sea level.

Way of life

The animals live on hardwoods infested with fungi, such as B. Trameten ( Trametes ) and Oxyporus . Both nymphs and adults prefer birch trees ( Betula ), but they can also be found on maples ( Acer ), oaks ( Quercus ), elms ( Ulmus ), willows ( Salix ), poplars ( Populus ), beeches ( Fagus ), alders ( Alnus ) and apples ( malus ). In the literature there is also information that, as an exception, they also live on pines ( Pinus ). The females are very happy to fly and often fly far away from potential habitats from mid-April to the end of May.

development

The animals do not develop seasonally, so that all stages of development can be found all year round. Mating takes place from May to June, and eggs are laid over a long period in summer.
