The Archenkanzel is a 1346 m high lookout point in the northeastern part of the Watzmann massif in the Berchtesgaden Alps . From the natural platform, which is equipped with wooden benches, about two thirds of the Königsee lake , which is 743 meters lower, can be seen in good visibility .
Routes
There are several numbered walking routes to the lookout point. So you can ascend from Schönau am Königssee in the direction of Grünstein . Leaving this on the right, follow the Klingerweg (path 443 according to the path numbering of the national park administration , which finally leads down as the Rinnkendlsteig to St. Bartholomä ) past the Klingeralm via the Kührointalm ( 1415 m ) to the Archenkanzel.
The only route on which the Archenkanzel can be reached by mountain bike starts at the Wimbachbrücke car park ( 634 m , alternatively Hammerstiel car park) and runs along a forest path. Here, too, one touches the Kührointalm. A few dozen meters in front of the Archenkanzel there is a turning area, from which cycling is no longer useful.
The most demanding ascent is from St. Bartholomä . From there the so-called Rinnkendlsteig leads upwards in some places exposed ( surefootedness and a head for heights required). Excellent views of the lake are already possible during the ascent.
crucifix
Immediately to the right of the ark pulpit is a three meter high crucifix , which the Berchtesgaden sculptor Heinrich Bieler (1919–1992) carved out of a tree trunk with two forks. The cross is set in a metal frame that is rounded at the top. The cross was erected here by the DAV one year after the artist's death .
