The Grünstein is a 1304 meter high mountain that belongs to the Watzmannstock in the Berchtesgaden Alps .
The green stone is in front of the Watzmann immediately northeast. It offers a beautiful view of the Berchtesgaden valley basin, of the surrounding Göll , Untersberg , Lattengebirge and Gotzenberg mountains .
Approaches
The most comfortable way leads from the Hammerstiel car park in Oberschönau past the managed Grünsteinhütte at an altitude of 1220 m to the summit. Another path leads steeper and somewhat more alpine from Königssee along the artificial ice toboggan run to the Grünsteinhütte and then joins the first path. The ascent time is approx. 1½ hours each.
The transition to the Kührointalm is possible from the Grünstein .
Via ferrata facility
On June 21, 2009, the construction of a via ferrata on the Grünstein began. Eight weeks later, construction was completed and the Isidor via ferrata (named after Isidor Grassl) was opened. The climb leads to the summit with difficulty C, there is also the difficult variant with difficulty D / E, the entry point is further to the right, and after about a third of the climb leads to the Isidor variant via a suspension bridge. Since 2011 there has been a third entry, the so-called robber ladder, also in grade D / E, but longer than the difficult variant. The robber's ladder ends just below the suspension bridge in the difficult variant.
Transmitters
One of the six transmission systems is located near the Grünstein summit, which serve as pseudolites in the GALILEO test and development environment (GATE) of the European satellite navigation system Galileo to simulate navigation satellites.
