arcplan is a software for business intelligence , budgeting, planning & forecasting (BP&F), analytics and collaborative BI. It is a further development of the business software inSight and dynaSight from the German manufacturer arcplan Information Services GmbH, now Longview Europe GmbH after the merger with Longview Solutions from Canada. The current version 10.3 was published in autumn 2018 - like the previous versions, it is available in a 32- and a 64-bit version. The currently available client technology is html5-based, Java and .Net clients are also available, but they are no longer being developed.

Before the merger with Longview Solutions, the company in Germany was led by the managing directors Roland Hölscher and Steffen Weissbarth.

The software supports users particularly in the field of Business Intelligence (BI), which comprises bundled processes for collecting, evaluating and displaying data in electronic form. Furthermore, processes of corporate planning and decision-making can be implemented using data analysis with this software. Arcplan is preferably used in medium-sized companies and larger corporations. Public law institutions also make use of it. A special feature in the business intelligence environment is that most interfaces can be written back, i. H. direct data entry is possible via the web frontend.

In Germany, arcplan is developed, distributed and supported by Longview Europe GmbH ( Langenfeld, North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and Development

The arcplan software emerged in 1993 in Düsseldorf from the client-server based software inSight. The founding fathers are the brothers Udo Wollschläger and Frank Hagedorn (both physicists) and the mathematician Dr. Hartmut Krins and the chemist Dr. Bernd Fröhlich. The software was initially developed by physicists Udo Wollschläger, Frank Hagedorn and Svend Dunkhorst. With 40%, the Lindner Hotel Group was the largest investor at the time, while the remaining shares were held by the company founders. In 2005 the company was sold to Viewpoint Capital Partners GmbH from Frankfurt am Main . In March 2015, arcplan will be sold to Marlin Equity Partners and merged with their portfolio company Longview Solutions.

inSight had a development environment that reflected a variable editorial principle. Using this editorial principle, users without programming knowledge could create individual reports using drag and drop . The editorial principle in general and the drag & drop reporting in particular was considered an innovation at that time compared to competitors.

In the early 1990s, inSight was one of the first programs that could access SAP data for reporting and analysis.

In 1996 inSight was incorporated into the web server-based further development dynaSight as a development environment. DynaSight was one of the first software solutions for uniform corporate management. It made it possible to access business applications using a Java-enabled browser.

After the further development of dynaSight into a business intelligence platform, dynaSight (version 4.1) was renamed to arcplan Enterprise (version 5.0) in March 2006. The Business Intelligence platform has been available as arcplan 8 with three components for different areas of application since September 2013. HTML5 has been supported since the release of version 8 ; In addition, access via mobile devices has been simplified by implementing a responsive design.

Before the merger, Arcplan had locations in Germany , the USA , Switzerland and Singapore . Arcplan resellers were located in the People's Republic of China , Korea , Chile , Finland , Singapore and Russia . Before the merger, the company employed around 100 people worldwide.

Areas of application

The software serves the classic requirements of a business intelligence application and, depending on the package, offers various additional functions. The integrated platform for reporting and planning is rated by the IT market research service provider Gartner Inc. as a key unique selling point.
