Ardestan ( Persian اردستان) is a small Iranian town in the Isfahan province with about 16,000 inhabitants. It is located about 90 kilometers north of Isfahan and is the seat of the district of the same name.
history
Ardestan was probably founded under the Sassanids and was an important city with strong city fortifications in the 10th century AD .
Friday mosque
The Friday Mosque of Ardestan was built in the 12th century on the remains of a square kiosk mosque, also from the 10th century. The building material was baked bricks. It is a total of a 4-iwan mosque. A splendid Ivan leads into the prayer hall, which is covered with a brick dome.
Imam Hassan's mosque
Imam Hassan's mosque is the second Seljuk mosque in the city of Ardestan. It originated in the 12th century. The portal was formerly surrounded by two minarets , only one of which has survived. It is perhaps the oldest portal with double minaret in Islamic building history. The Seljuk mihrab is badly damaged.
