Are All Men Pedophiles? (in English 'Are all men pedophiles?') is an award-winning documentary on pedophilia by Dutch filmmaker Jan-Willem Breure from 2012 . The film had its world premiere on March 2, 2012 at the Queens World Film Festival in New York City and has been shown at various film festivals.

The film with the slogan "Eighteen Is Just A Number" proposes that all men are hebephilically , that is, that men find teenagers sexually attractive. He argues that society has to distinguish between hebephile tendencies and the real pedo-sexual attraction to children under the age of 13. The consequences of the generalization of “pedophilia” are shown, which has led to the fact that all men are considered potential pedophiles in legislation. Airlines had prevented men from sitting next to children, booksellers had banned men from the children's department and childcare had banned fathers from entering the facilities.

The documentary presents pedophilia from a cultural and professional perspective with the help of various experts , neuroscientists, psychologists, sexologists and model scouts .

Apart from grants from the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten , the film was privately funded, for the most part by Breure himself.

criticism

The film was received and discussed controversially.

The focus is on the paradox of an omnipresent sexualization of teenagers in western media and pop culture, while at the same time sexual intercourse with minors is a criminal offense.

The Lolita subculture is cited as an example of this phenomenon . This has led to protests in the relevant blogs of this fan community, which claim that the film has caused massive damage to their scene culture. They see the infantilization and styling of adult women and children alike as fashion and as an expression of self- styling without any reference to sexual preferences or needs.

Claims that the poster model did not know that her photo was being used to advertise a film about pedophilia, but thought the photo was being used in connection with promoting Japanese fashion, were rejected by Breure. He says the 14-year-old girl saw the title of the film and gave her consent on the back of the photograph.

Reviews

Filmmaker Breure has been criticized for lacking a political agenda. The BuzzFeed website , which tracks advertising phenomena online, states that neither the film nor the director wanted to comment on whether the age of consent should be changed in western countries . The feminist blog Jezebel comments: “He just thinks that teenage girls are hot, and he doesn't want you to think that's gross, okay?” ('He just thinks that teenage girls are hot and doesn't want you to think that was abnormal, okay? ')
