Are You Experienced is the debut album of Jimi Hendrix Experience , which was published on May 12, 1967th

History of the album

After arriving in England in September 1966, Hendrix formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience with Mitch Mitchell on drums and Noel Redding on bass. Recordings began on October 26, 1966 and were completed on April 3, 1967. After the band had already made it into the top 10 of the English charts with their singles Hey Joe, Purple Haze and The Wind Cries Mary , the album Are You Experienced was also able to reach position 2 in the UK charts. In 2003 the music magazine Rolling Stone placed the album at number 15 of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time .

The album was only released in mono , which is remarkable because on the one hand stereophonic records were common in this music industry at that time , on the other hand Hendrix was working with stereophonic effects on the following albums. Record releases in other countries therefore used electronic stereo to produce a pseudo-stereo sound; later editions of the album contain real stereo mixes, as do the following CD editions.

Track list

The album was released in the UK and the US with different songs. The English version, which was also released in Germany, contained 11 newly recorded tracks, but no singles already released, and no singles from the album were released either - a common practice at the time. For the American version, the titles Red House, Can You See Me and Remember were replaced by the singles Hey Joe, Purple Haze and The Wind Cries Mary and the order was changed. To Hendrix's regret, Red House was left out because, according to the American record company, America has no interest in the blues.

Except for Billy Roberts' Hey Joe , all songs were written by Jimi Hendrix.

The CD version contains all tracks from both album versions as well as the B-sides of the first three Experience singles.
