The Areta rock is a 785 m high Nunatak in the West Antarctic Queen Elizabeth Land . It rises 5 km southeast of Mount Spann in the Panzarini Hills of the Argentina Range in the Pensacola Mountains .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own surveys and with the help of aerial photographs of the United States Navy between 1956 and 1967. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1968 after Lieutenant Eduardo Ferrin Areta of the armed forces of Argentina , officer on duty at Ellsworth Station in Antarctic winter 1961.
