Aretha Dawn Thurmond , b. Hill (born August 14, 1976 in Seattle ) is an American discus thrower .

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, she was eliminated from qualification.

In 1999 she won the Pan American Games in Winnipeg , but did not get beyond the preliminary round at the World Athletics Championships in Seville .

In 2003 she defended her title at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo and was eliminated again in qualifying at the World Cup in Paris / Saint-Denis . Also at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and at the 2005 World Cup in Helsinki, she fell out in the first round. In 2006 she finished second at the Athletics World Cup in Athens .

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 and at the 2009 World Cup in Berlin, she was tenth.

In 2011 she was eliminated from qualifying at the World Cup in Daegu and won silver at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara .

In 2012 in London , she played her fourth Olympic Games, but did not get beyond the preliminary round.

She was US champion four times (2003, 2004, 2006, 2008). She set her personal best of 65.86 m on March 28, 2004 in Marietta .
