history

Ludwig Müller was a businessman and musician. He turned to photography at the beginning of the 20th century. During the First World War he ran an extensive mail order and export business for photographic articles. In 1918 he opened his shop in Pasing. In 1938, Pasing was incorporated into Munich under Adolf Hitler . The “photographic paper factory” with its headquarters at Willibaldstrasse 22 was completely destroyed by air raids in World War II, but continued to exist as an oHG , most recently as a GmbH with its last headquarters in the former branch at Planegger Strasse 121 as the new headquarters. Müller's sons Richard and Ludwig Müller junior, later also son Robert Müller, joined the father's company and later continued it as managing director .

Even after the war, Argenta continued to operate internationally. In the 1950s, the Photo Industry Association complained that Argenta had lowered the prices of certain specialty papers below the rates recommended by the association. In 1964 the company had 180 employees. The manufacturer's specialties were photo linen and paper colored with copper, silver and gold for black and white photography . The “heavy” barite papers with unhardened emulsion, which were suitable for bromine oil printing, were a specialty . In the 1950s / 1960s, an emulsion-coated canvas was developed that was launched in 1962. This photo canvas was intended for stage decorations, advertising purposes and graphic reproductions.

Production was stopped in 1991 and the company was dissolved the following year.
