Lake Aripuno ( Laguna Aripuno ) is a freshwater lake in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

The lake is about 95 percent of its area in equal parts in the Municipio Jesús de Machaca and in the Municipio San Andrés de Machaca in the province of Ingavi in the department of La Paz ; a small part of the lake in the southeast lies in the Municipio Nazacara de Pacajes in the province of Pacajes . Laguna Aripuno is located on the Bolivian Altiplano at an altitude of 3841  m , in a southerly direction about thirty kilometers away from Wiñaymarka qucha , the southern section of Lake Titicaca .

size

The lake extends from southeast to northwest over a length of about eight kilometers and has a width of up to two kilometers. The lake is fed by the waters of the Desaguadero River, which flows from Lake Titicaca in a southerly direction towards Lake Poopó . Depending on the season and the flow of the Río Desaguadero, the size and depth of the Laguna Aripuno fluctuate considerably; over long stretches of the year the lake breaks down into individual small basins that are barely connected to each other.

colonization

The two villages Nazacara and Nazacara de Pacajes are located directly south of the lake on the Ruta 43 road . The Laguna Aripuno is an important freshwater reservoir for agriculture in the region and for the fauna that has settled there.
