ARK was a British band from Manchester , England .
Band history
ARK was founded in 1998 in Manchester by Steve Hanley . He previously played in the band The Fall from 1979 to 1998 . After an argument during a gig in New York, he left the band and formed ARK with former Fall members Karl Burns and Tommy Crooks. The band's lead singer was Pete Keogh, who was bassist for Marc Riley with the Creepers in the 1980s and before that he played with Steve Hanley's younger brother Paul in the band Kiss The Blade (which later changed its name to Shout Bamalam). Paul Hanley was also a drummer with The Fall from 1980 to 1985, joined ARK as a keyboardist, but later switched to drums when Karl Burns left the band. A short time later, Tommy Crooks left and was replaced by Colin Burns, who had previously helped the band as a roadie. Colin Burns (not related to Karl Burns) played in the punk band The Junior Manson Slags in the 1980s.
In 2002 the CD Brainsold was released . In addition to Steve Hanley, his sons Matthew and Paul also played on it. Paul Hanley, who plays keyboards on the album, already has his own bands in which he plays drums. During his studies at Manchester City Colleges he played in The Forest, but left the band after the first single release Living Room . He is currently the drummer with Sacred.
Steve Hanley and his brother Paul have been playing with Inspiral Carpets singer Tom Hingley in the band The Lovers since 2001 . After the single Yeah , which was released in 2003, they released their debut album Abba Are The Enemy in 2004. The successor Highlights was released in March 2008.
