biography

Armen Eloyan grew up in the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic . His mother was a doctor, his father an engineer.

Because of his dyslexia , Eloyan had problems at school. He was already interested in painting in his youth. His interests in art were supported by his parents. After graduating from school, at the age of 17 he worked in the animation studio of the Armenian filmmaker Robert Sahakyants at "Armenfilm". He drew the background and interior for two of Sahakyant's animated films .

At the age of 18 he was called up for military service at the time of the military conflict between the Armenian SSR and the Azerbaijani SSR . Eloyan refused military service and therefore had to do two years of alternative service in Siberia . In the 1990s he emigrated to the Netherlands via Prague .

After first exhibitions, Eloyan got a studio for three months in the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag in 2003 , where he painted and lived. He created watercolors and oil paintings . From 2003 to 2005 he graduated from the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam.

Eloyan's work became known to an international audience through exhibitions in the Parasol unit foundation for contemporary art in London in 2007, in the Kunsthalle Bern and in the Kunsthalle St.Gallen in 2008. Since then, his works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Europe, America and Asia.

Eloyan is a second marriage and has six children. His twin daughters Ani and Nare Eloyan (* 1988) from their first marriage are also artists.
