The Armin-Knab-Gymnasium is a co-educational , humanistic, linguistic and scientific-technological high school in Kitzingen . It is the only grammar school in the city of Kitzingen and is located in the Mühlberg area, about one kilometer from the old town, near the Main . The grammar school emerged from a monastery school that was founded more than 1250 years ago.
Chronicle (excerpt)
- Benedictine monastery school (approx. 745–1544)
- Convent school of the Ursulines (1660–1802)
- Catholic Latin School 19th Century (1807–1872)
- Protestant Latin School 19th Century (? –1871)
- Royal Latin School and Progymnasium (1872-1924)
- Upper secondary school and grammar school (since 1924)
- Renamed on March 14, 1966 after Armin Knab (1881–1951) in Armin-Knab-Gymnasium.
The school has developed in a wide variety of areas thanks to student, parent and teacher initiatives. A tea room was initiated (and closed again in 2006), a central library, a music computer room, a school garden with orchards and bee colonies. In addition, the gym was expanded so that it can be used as a theater and concert hall.
School grounds
The building is laid out in a rectangle so that there is an atrium in the middle of the house. The gym consists of two halls, with the space on the first floor being used for music lessons. The rooms under the gyms are used for heating technology, theater groups and handicraft lessons. A school garden is also looked after by the students .
In the atrium there is a bronze bust of the namesake Armin Knab .
particularities
At the school, from the tenth grade onwards, you can choose Spanish instead of the first foreign language, whereby this must be taken up to the Abitur (so-called late foreign language). Music and theater play a particularly important role in the AKG.
Although the grammar school is still allowed to use the designation "humanistic", the choice of ancient Greek as a second foreign language is usually no longer possible today because the interest is too low.
The school offers all-day care with lunch, homework support and leisure activities such as dance workshops, sports, meditation training or reading.
